So if you haven't heard of the ketogenic diet, in really simple terms it is a diet which is very low in carbs and high in fat (GOOD fats) Once your body is depleted of carbs, it goes into a metabolic state called ketosis. The low carb, high fat diet is great for weight loss and it provides many health benefits, have a google to find out more!
Here is the sort of breakfast you would be having on this diet, not bad hey?!
There are three simple elements...
- Cheesy scrambled eggs
- Pan fried red onions and mushrooms in garlic and oregano
2 tbsp ghee or grass fed butter
1 tbsp grated cheddar or however much you fancy
1/2 red onion thinly sliced
Handful mushrooms sliced
1 tsp oregano
1 garlic clove
1 tsp apple cider vinegar
salt and pepper
olive oil - optional
First thinly slice the onions and melt 1 tbsp ghee into a frying pan. Add the onion and cook for 5 mins. Meanwhile cut the mushrooms, stirring the onions every so often. Add the minced garlic clove, the oregano, apple cider vinegar and the mushrooms, continue to fry.
Whilst the veggies are doing there ting, whisk three eggs in a bowl with a pinch of salt and a few grinds of pepper. Melt 1 tbsp ghee into another frying pan and add the beaten eggs. Stir until the eggs become scrambled, don't forget to keep stirring the veggies so that they cook evenly.
The eggs will need to have a close eye on them, turn off the heat as soon as they become scrambled and pop onto a plate. Grate the cheddar cheese on top. Halve an avocado, slice up and scoop out onto your plate.
Veggies should be done by now so spoon them onto your plate and sprinkle them with salt and season the avocado whilst your at it! If you're feeling the fats drizzle with extra virgin olive oil for good meassure!
